Rev. Ray Majors

MELVILLE – Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 4, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at First Pentecostal Church, 112 Fontenot St., Melville, LA 71353 for Brother Ray Majors, age 77, who passed away Sunday, June 2, 2013 at 1:30 a.m. at Our Lady of The Lake Hospital in Baton Rouge.

Interment will be in First Pentecostal Cemetery in Melville. Rev. Samuel Ham, Rev. Ray Johnson and Rev. Crawford Coon will officiate at the services.

Musical selections will be provided by Brother Majors’s granddaughters.

Born on March 8, 1936 in Coon, La., Marcus Ray Majors, Sr., affectionately known as Bro. Ray Majors, began his life’s journey. In 1939, the family moved to Melville, La. where his father founded the First Pentecostal Church of Melville. He attended L.S.U. and Southeastern Louisiana University. In 1956, he married Geneva Sanders Majors and in 1957, began pastoring the church following his father’s death. Brother Majors served as pastor here for over 52 years. Having a great love for travel and people made piloting and extensive international missionary journeys a natural way to spend his time. Brother Majors, a kind man of genuine character, has impacted many, both locally in our communities and worldwide, with his passion for Apostolic Christian values.

Survivors include his wife, Geneva Sanders Majors of Melville; two sons, Mark Majors and his wife, Ginger, and Danny Majors and his wife, Sierra, all of Melville; two daughters, Beverly Majors of Melville and Sandie Smoak and her husband, Randal, of Dixie, LA; eleven grandchildren, Logan Prestonback and his wife, Laura, Jared Prestonback and his wife, Jade, Andrea Ryder and her husband, Julien, Anthony Majors and his wife, Bria, Naomi Majors, Nathaniel Majors, Victoria Smoak, Julianne Smoak, Katelyn Rose Smoak, Lily Majors and River Ray Majors; three great grandchildren, Kaden, Kennedy and Kannon; two brothers, Willy Joseph “Billy” Majors and his wife, Kay, of Melville and Johnson Lee “Peachy” Majors and his wife, Sydney, of Jarreau, LA; one sister, Sharron Majors Dunn and her husband, Marvin, of Palmetto; and one brother-in-law, Daniel Boudreaux of Melville.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd Majors and the former Willie Sapp; one brother, Robert Elmo “Bobby” Majors and three sisters, Floydell Majors Pitre, Joy Janette Majors Boudreaux and Betty Majors Thornhill.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 4:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. at First Pentecostal Church, 112 Fontenot St., Melville, LA 71353 Monday and will continue from 10:00 a.m. until service time on Tuesday.

Pallbearers will be Randal Smoak, Julien Ryder, Logan Prestonback, Jared Prestonback, Anthony Majors and Nathaniel Majors. Honorary pallbearers will be River Majors and Kannon Prestonback.

Memorial contributions in the name of Brother Ray Majors may be made to compassionservices.org and First Pentecostal Church in Melville-Foreign Mission at P.O. Box 445, Melville, LA 71353.

The family would like to express their appreciation to Dr. Patrick Stagg, his staff and the Our Lady of the Lake Hospital fifth floor nursing staff for their heartfelt care of Brother Majors during his illness.
